Busting idling & noisy buses: Town Hall on Nov. 12th

November 9th, 2009 · No Comments

The West Side is not a giant parking lot or a space for commercial vehicles to run their engines in between jobs.  But you wouldn’t know that by the behavior of some of the tour and charter buses that clog our streets!

Join WSNA and our partners in the West Side Clean Air Campaign next Thursday for a Town Hall meeting to push for traffic law enforcement and better regulation of the tour/charter bus industry.

Our campaign has focused mostly on how idling vehicles needlessly pollute the air we breathe, but the issue goes beyond idling. On some streets, residents can expect tourist buses to pass by all day every few minutes, often with tour guides using loud speakers just feet away from their homes.  Advocates from neighborhoods frequented by these buses have asked WSNA to sign-on to legislation that would require bus companies to design routes that respect our communities and to use head-sets to cut down on the noise.

Should WSNA sign-on in support of this legislation?  Are there other issues we should bring up at the Town Hall?  Join us on Monday, Nov. 9th to discuss these issues and prepare for Thursday’s Town Hall. We’ll be meeting at HCC’s office at 6:30pm, 777 10th Ave between 52/53 St.

And then don’t forget to join us, our elected officials, and reps from bus companies and city/state agencies at the Town Hall.
